AudioCodes
core network gateway product line, consisting of the Mediant
3000, Mediant 5000 and Mediant 8000, is aimed at assisting our business
partners to offer a solution for mid/high-capacity and high-demanding
environments such as carrier networks. AudioCodes is constantly
adding new features and new capabilities to the systems product
line in order to make the Mediant gateways more beneficial to our
partners and customers, as well as to end users, who are mainly
carriers. A successful example is Kapsch CarrierCom, an Austrian
System Integrator and Softswitch vendor, who selected AudioCodes
media gateways for its carrier solution.
Following
is a depiction of the new features and capabilities available in
the core network gateway product line:
Capacity
Emphasis
Systems capacity has been emphasized with the introduction of the
new TP-6310 STM1 board. To support this high TDM capacity, a new
WAN interface has been introduced and 1 GB Ethernet interfaces are
now available on the Mediant 8000 and Mediant 5000, with up to 3
simultaneous interfaces available for a total WAN capacity of 3
GB.
PSTN
Signaling
On the PSTN signaling side, full support for integrated SIGTRAN
M3UA is planned for the upcoming versions, in addition to M2UA that
is already supported. M2UA enables the termination of the SS7 MTP2
layer and reliable transmission of MTP3 and higher layers to the
softswitch for further processing. Adding M3UA support allows the
media gateway to be connected to the SS7 PSTN network and termination
of the MTP2 and MTP3 layers, while sending only the ISUP layer to
the softswitch for further processing. Support for M3UA also enables
the pointcode to reside on the media gateway, thus offloading the
handling of SS7 pointcodes from the softswitch in the IP domain.
Proxyless
Architecture
A new, proxyless architecture has been adopted for the systems.
Each voice board within the chassis of the Mediant 5000 and Mediant
8000 acts as a stand-alone media gateway, while the System Controller
handles communication with the EMS, initialization and configuration
of the voice board, monitoring of the chassis and performing redundancy
and hot standby functionality, when necessary. This enables greater
flexibility to end users and our partners when planning networks
with the Mediant 5000 and Mediant 8000 and when upgrading from the
Mediant 2000 to the Mediant 5000/8000. It will also enable a smooth
migration to existing developers using AudioCodes’ boards, who can
now adopt the Mediant 5000/8000 chassis in addition to their own
platforms. This will also enable more than one Call Agent / MGC
/ Softswitch to connect to and control the Mediant 8000 by dedicating
separate boards to each entity.
