CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) Gateway

CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) Gateway - Definition

Customer-premises equipment or customer-provided equipment (CPE) is any terminal and associated equipment located at a subscriber's premises and connected with a carrier's telecommunication channel(s) at the demarcation point. The demarcation point is a point established in a building or complex to separate customer equipment from telephone company equipment.

A CPE Media Gateway typically connects residential, SMB or enterprise telephony equipment to the service provider voice network. This is done by converting the existing TDM interfaces such as FXO, BRI, E1/T1 or STM-1 to VoIP.
