IP Phone
IP Phone - Definition
An IP Phone is a telephony device that uses a standard VoIP over Ethernet connection to connect to a VoIP network. Instead of using a POTS service to connect to traditional telephony switches using an FXS interface, or using a proprietary digital interface to connect to digital PBXs, IP Phones are used by enterprises for modern telephony infrastructure along with IP-PBXs, and by telephony service providers on their VoBB (Voice Over Broadband) infrastructure, controlled by a centralized Softswitch.
HDVoIP Enabled IP Phones also allow the user to benefit from increased quality sound, a richer user experience, better intelligibility and superior voice clarity.
IP Phones can be controlled by using a standard VoIP control protocol such as SIP, MGCP and H.323. IP Phones typically use RTP (Real Time Protocol) for the voice communications that occurs directly from phone to phone.
