Megaco/H.248 - Definition
The Gateway Control Protocol or Megaco/H.248 is a control protocol, used between a Media Gateway and a Media Gateway Controller in a VoIP network. It defines the necessary control mechanism to allow a Media Gateway Controller to control gateways in order to support voice/fax calls between PSTN-IP or IP-IP networks.
MEGACO/H.248 is the selected protocol for Media Gateway control in the IMS architecture and is globally used by service provider to control medium to high density media gateways.
