VoIP Blade - Definition

A VoIP blade is a form factor for VoIP products that can be integrated into computing systems using technologies such as PCI, cPCI and ATCA. VoIP Blades can serve different functions in the VoIP network such as Media Gateway, Media Server, Recording and any other function that can similarly be supported by an external appliance.

A VoIP blade integrated into a computing server can be controlled using an Application Programmer Interface (API) or via standard control protocols such as SIP. VoIP blades can easily VoIP-enable telephony applications by integrating them into off-the-shelf servers running existing telephony applications.
