The Mediant™ 1000 is the latest addition to AudioCodes low density media gateway family, introduced on March 7th at Spring VON. AudioCodes has expanded its line of Mediant™ gateways by developing a modular platform with both analog and digital interfaces that can be used as an integrated platform for OEM and partner applications.
The Mediant 1000 is based on VoIPerfect™, the comprehensive and field-proven architecture common to AudioCodes’ media gateways that achieved the outstanding voice quality results in the latest “Speech Quality Test Event” held by ETSI (European Telecommunications Standard Institute).
The Mediant 1000 is designed to interface between TDM and IP networks in enterprises as well as in small-scale carrier locations. Supporting multiple analog and digital modules with a variety in the number of spans, as well as supporting mixed digital and analog configurations, the compact and modular Mediant™ 1000 media gateway is extremely scalable. The Mediant™ 1000 supports up to 4 digital trunks (fully flexible, from a single trunk per module all the way to a single module with all 4 trunks) or as a purely analog configuration, supporting up to 24 analog ports (6 modules with 4 ports on each). The digital module can have up to 4 regular E1/T1 Span interfaces, or can have 1 or 2 paired spans acting as life-line interfaces for switching to the PSTN in case of power failure or network problems. The analog Module can consist of FXS or FXO interfaces, where one FXS can be used as a life-line interface for switching to the PSTN.
The market requires integrated platforms that contain all interfaces for the following connectivity in the network:
- Digital interfaces – connecting the PSTN or PBX to the IP network
- Analog FXS interfaces – connecting analog phones and fax machines to the IP network
- Analog FXO interfaces – connecting analog lines from the Central Office (CO) or PBX to the IP network
The Mediant 1000 has enhanced hardware and software capabilities that provide superior reliability as an access MGW connecting the enterprise PBX to the telephony network, since it supports seamless installation of the gateway. This means that customers can have a seamless IP telephony service without any additional hardware or reconfiguration of their existing PBX. To achieve seamless installation, the media gateway is installed using a paired E1/T1 which provides life-line/PSTN fallback capabilities using one E1/T1 connected to the PBX and the other E1/T1 connected to the PSTN.
The open platform on the Mediant 1000 offers partners the option to host their own applications (e.g., IP-PBX or call center application) on an optional processor card or Single Board Computer (SBC) to provide a complete solution within the Mediant 1000 chassis.
The product has the following advanced technical capabilities:
- Modular product that can be scaled to higher densities by adding additional modules
- Mixed analog and digital interfaces on a single platform
- Can be installed as an access media gateway without performing any modifications to the PBX
- Metallic-Relay for PSTN Fallback as result of malfunctions in the media gateway
- PSTN fallback for guaranteed QoS
- Platform for partner applications.
