Best-of Breed Channel Play

The introduction of NGN (Next Generation Networks) and IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) has created unprecedented opportunities for worldwide system integrators. For the first time ever, carrier’s networks can be built using standard protocols and interfaces, based on the IMS architecture.

A continuous increase of carrier world-wide take the best-of-breed network design approach, implementing their NGN networks based on a combination of multiple platforms from multiple vendors. The IMS architecture defines the standard interfaces between the different components of the network, based on two key protocols: H.248 (MEGACO) for media gateway control, and SIP for session control.

The role of system integrators in today’s current climate is more important than ever. This differs from previous times when large NEPs (Network Equipment Providers) set the standard for an end-to-end network based on platforms derived from a single vendor. Today, system integrators implement networks based on best-of-breed equipment coming from different vendors.

This new business model is fundamental for genuine competitiveness in the telecom world, and a true decrease in time-to-market of new services, and network operational costs.

AudioCodes and its channels play a key role in this picture. AudioCodes strategy of providing best-of-breed media gateway and media server technology and platforms, allows our channels to create their own offering of best-of-breed networks. Our great investment in standard compliance and interoperability with many soft-switch and application server vendors, allows the system integration channel to elect and adopt the right solution for their carrier customer, thereby providing the best solution.

The carrier will receive a truly open network, which can be easily integrated with any new standard compliant application server, and allows true agility and the ability to quickly introduce new, revenue generating service for the customers.

Differentiation is the name of the game. This new business model will differentiate between the vendors who lock in their customers with end-to-end solutions, and the vendors integrating into the IMS open architecture. It will also differentiate between the fulfillment-only channels and the true systems integrators that provide best-of-breed solutions and value added services. Finally, it will differentiate between the carriers that will implement true NGN, best-of-breed networks, open to rapid deployment of new services and applications, and the old fashioned carriers, who deploy a single vendor infrastructure, not flexible enough for the new era of service convergence.

The AudioCodes channel marketing team is positioned to assist our channels by introducing this new business model into the market together. With our growing network of soft-switch and application partners, and the new marketing content that is being produced daily, we will support our channels who are ready to embrace the new world of best-of-breed channel play.
