GSM / GAN
GSM / GAN - Market Requirements
Historically, AudioCodes has provided and continues to supply GSM over IP Media Gateway solutions to enable the use of IP-BSC/BTSs within legacy GSM radio networks. With the commercial introduction of UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access), also known as Generic Access Network (GAN), GSM mobile operators are able to provide service to users over WiFi as well as GSM radio networks with the use of WiFi/Cellular handsets. As UMA continues to gain popularity among GSM operators as a means to provide service to users over WiFi, AudioCodes is well positioned with a comprehensive set of media gateways and security gateways into any UMA compliant network.
GSM / GAN - AudioCodes Solution
AudioCodes provides a comprehensive set of products which are suited for UMA deployments including:
- AudioCodes Mediant 5000 & 8000 Media Gateways serve as the UNC (UMA Network Controller) gateway for circuit to packet media conversions using an AMR vocoder, as well as the tunneling of A-interface BSSAP messaging using Sigtran M3UA. The Mediant MGF is controlled using Megaco/H.248 by the UNC controller
- AudioCodes nCite Security Gateway provides termination of IP-Sec tunnels from each UMA mobile handset providing the required security over an open WiFi / Broadband access network
